History In 1994 few Muslim families met and started a weekend school to teach their children Islamic studies and arabic language. In the beginning, the school was conducted in the homes of the participating families on a rotation basis. The number of students kept growing, and since 1995 the school has been conducted through classrooms at Florida Atlantic University. In 1996, the Assalam Center was officially registered with the State of Florida as a non-profit organization. Alhamdu Lilah the Muslim community of Boca Raton and neighboring cities has continued to grow significantly. Currently, the school has over 80 students between the age of 5 to 19, and has overgrown the permitted temprary facility provided by Florida Atlantic University. Moreover, many Muslim families who are waiting to get their children into the school cannot be accomodated at the current facilities. Hence, the Assalam Center has purchased approximately 2 acres of land in the heart of Boca Raton, at 1499 NW 4th Avenue, to build our own Center. Boca Raton is a strategic city located between Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, in Florida. It has Florida Atlantic University and Plam Beach Community College, as well as a large number of important businesses. It is estimated that 50,000 to 60,000 Muslims reside in South Florida. This number is continuously increasing. |
